Overview and Benefits

The Broadband Checker add-on allows you to quickly perform a broadband suitability check against a customer or lead record.

Results are stored automatically in the Notes section, for reference.

This feature will be of benefit to all Sales users, saving time when preparing Quotes and working with Opportunities. There's no need to leave The Layer and go into external platforms to check broadband availability; by checking this directly from The Layer, you can be confident that the service and speeds you're offering are available for your customers.

This will also help Provisioning and Service Teams; the service quoted will definitely be the service that's connected, increasing efficiency and service levels, leading to happier customers!

The Broadband Checker is a premium add-on. If you're interested in making use of this feature, please get in touch with your Account Manager.

Using the Broadband Checker

Performing a broadband suitability check

A broadband check can be performed against either a lead or customer record. From the Broadband Checker menu at the top of the screen, you can access a list of providers who have been configured.

Select one to open the Broadband Checker.

From here, you can either type a new postcode or select one from the list. The list contains postcodes for the addresses registered to that customer or lead record. These can be seen on the Addresses tab of the record.

Only one postcode can be entered at a time. Click on View to see a menu containing all of the matching addresses for that postcode.

Choose the desired address and click on View again to perform the check.

The format of results will differ between providers. You can use the Search bar to filter the table.

Results will be automatically stored as a note as soon as they are presented.

You can click on Back to go one step back and select another address for the postcode entered, or Home to try another postcode.

Results storage

Results will automatically be saved as notes. These can be seen on the Notes tab of the customer or lead record.

These notes can be deleted by users with the Delete Auto Populated Notes user role.

Installing the Broadband Checker

The Broadband Checker can be installed by users with Settings access. This will require you to input your username and password for supported platforms.

From Settings, click on the link to Functions in the Scripting Framework section. Then, click on the ScriptStore button in the top-right of the screen.

The ScriptStore is a self-service area that allows you to install add-ons.

Note that some of these add-ons will incur an up-front and / or monthly charge. This will be indicated by the presence of a £ sign.

Locate the Broadband Checker button. The red cross icon indicates that it has not been installed.

Clicking on it will open up the installer.

This window details the component parts of the feature. Click on Next to proceed.

Enter the username and password for the checker(s) you wish to use.

The Broadband Checker will then be available from a lead or customer record.

Changing the login credentials

If you ever need to change the login credentials for the Broadband Checker, you can do so from Settings - Functions. Click on the Broadband Checker tab and then click on the relevant Broadband Checker script.

Here you can enter new credentials.

Uninstalling the Broadband Checker

You can uninstall and unsubscribe from the feature by accessing the ScriptStore, clicking on the Broadband Checker button, and then clicking Uninstall.
