Allows users with the correct permissions to override the default supplier for an item within quotes and sales orders

Got a quote or sales order that needs a tweak? With the right permissions, you can easily switch up the supplier for any item. Here's how to do it—and why it’s important for sales teams.

Why Override a Supplier?

Sometimes, the default supplier for a product just doesn’t fit the bill. Maybe it’s about pricing, availability, or simply customer preference. Whatever the reason, with this handy feature, you can choose a supplier that works best—right there in your quote or sales order!


How to Get Started: Enable the Permission

Not everyone can make these changes (and that’s a good thing). To enable this feature for someone:

  1. Head to Settings (you’ll need admin access) ➡️ User profile ➡️Roles.

  2. Tick the box to grant supplier override permissions for specific users.


Making the Change: Quotation & Sales Orders

Here’s how you can override a supplier once permissions are in place:

  1. Look for the “?” icon to confirm you have the right permissions to make the switch.

  2. Add the item to your quote or sales order as usual.

  3. Click on the item name.

  4. A list of available suppliers will appear—select the one you need.

  5. Click "Save"

That’s it! Your new supplier is now selected for this line only—it won’t affect the original product in the price book.


Who Can Make This Change?

This feature is perfect for sales teams. If you have the right role or access, you can amend the supplier whenever it’s needed. Not sure if you have access? Speak to your Layer admin to enable it for you.
