Getting Started: Setting Up Your Calendar Views
To get the most out of the Resource Planner, follow these easy steps:
Step 1: Name Your Calendars
First things first, decide on names for your calendars. These could reflect your team structure or location, for example:
Teams: Sales, Service, Engineers, Finance
Locations (e.g): London, Manchester, Edinburgh
Each calendar is linked to a business unit in The Layer, so if you need a new one, create a business unit first. Follow the steps in the image below to set one up. 🎯
📝NOTE
Core business units in The Layer are tied to other functions like leaderboards and dropdown selections. If you only need a calendar view, create a new business unit instead. To see what the core business units cover, you can view this article here.
Step 2: Hide Unwanted Business Units
Not every business unit needs to be in the calendar view. To keep things tidy:
Go to the Business Unit Settings
Tick Hide in Scheduler
Save your changes ✅
For example, if ‘Commissions’ isn’t needed, simply hide it to keep your calendar clutter-free.
Step 3: Assign Users to Business Units
To make sure the right people appear in the right calendars:
Navigate to Settings > Users > Memberships
Select the business units they belong to
Repeat for all relevant users 👥
👉Heads up!
Pre-existing business units are linked to dropdown lists (e.g., cases, opportunities) and widgets, so check with your Layer Administrator before making changes. Read the article for more on Business Units here.
