Suppressing Invoices in The Layer allows you to exclude specific costs from customer invoices while ensuring accurate internal accounting and reporting.

Sometimes, you may have items marked as invoiceable in The Layer, but you decide not to invoice them through the platform. This might happen if you have a cost on the order that you don't want to invoice or pass on to the customer.

To keep your accounts balanced and reporting accurate, you’ll need to handle these items properly by suppressing the invoice requirement.

This article walks you through how to manage these situations effectively, including part-invoicing for orders where some items need to be invoiced.

Before You Begin

💡 Note: Suppressing invoices is a permission-based feature. If you don’t have access, contact your Layer Administrator for help.

How to Manage and Suppress an Invoice

  1. Review the Sales Order:

    • Open the relevant Sales Order and check all billing details carefully.

  2. Part-Invoice the Order (If Needed):

    • If the order includes some items that need to be invoiced, make sure to invoice those items first.

    • Only use the Suppress Invoice feature for items that you do not want to invoice.

  3. Go to the Header Tab:

    • Navigate to the Header tab in the Sales Order.

  4. Suppress the Invoice Requirement:

    • Click on Suppress Invoice and then hit Save.

    • This action ensures that items you don’t want to be invoiced are excluded from the invoicing process in The Layer.

Pro Tip: Avoid Using the Wrong Status

When suppressing invoices, make sure not to select the “To Be Invoiced” status for orders. This keeps your invoicing tasks clear and avoids confusion in your workstacks.

By following these steps, you can manage your invoicing process efficiently, ensuring only the necessary items are invoiced while suppressing the rest. If you have any questions or run into issues, don’t hesitate to contact your Layer Administrator for assistance.
